Recertification And Advancement

Recertification
To retain Certification, every Board-Certified Orthodontist must earn at least 60 approved CEU credits in the three year period following award of Certification.

Certification Examination
The written examination required for certification will be administered on a rolling basis. It consists of approximately eight case reports. The information provided in each case report will be used to develop a diagnosis and treatment plan, and to answer a number of pertinent questions. The intent of the exam is to demonstrate competence; given that every case can be treated using a variety of techniques. Successful answers will be complete, logical, and consistent. Applicants will be contacted to schedule delivery of the test materials to your office or other location of your choice. The exam should be completed within 4.5 hours, then returned to the National Board office.

Conditions for Advancement
Any practitioner who has successfully completed an accredited graduate-level orthodontic program should apply for Board Certified Diplomate status at the earliest possible date.

The completed and approved teaching cases required for Board Certified Fellow recognition must be present at the Board-sponsored seminar or meeting, and should be accompanied by suitable displays for exhibit during the meeting. Content of continuing education material presented for Board Certified Mentor status must be approved in advance by the Advisory Board.
